The Sumner County CASA Project, Inc. was developed on the premise that every child has the right to a safe, permanent home. CASA volunteers offer children support and advocacy during complex legal proceedings. They help the child understand the events that are happening, prepare them for what may come about and encourage the child to express his/her opinions and hopes. A CASA is a consistent figure who provides continuity for the child by following through on the case until it is successfully resolved.
CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to recommend the best possible outcome for an abused or neglected child’s future. CASA volunteers are trained and have the complete support of the CASA organization. CASA volunteers review records, research information and talk to everyone involved – social workers, attorneys, judges, parents, teacher, family members and, of course, the children themselves. Volunteers then present their recommendations to the court as to what they feel are best for the child.
To become a CASA volunteer, please contact our office at (620) 326-8919, or stop by and see us at 120 East 9th Street, Wellington, KS.
